Ever watched a dog at the park hit a perfect recall while yours is three zip codes away pretending to be deaf? Yeah. Us too.

On Sunday, October 11, the pros from Obedience Kings are setting up shop at The Barking Barley for a drop-in beginner obedience session — and you don’t need to sign up for anything, commit to anything, or know a single thing about training to walk in.

Here’s the deal: $10 gets you one-on-one time with an OBK trainer, plus a beer or a soda. That’s it. Show up any time between 12 and 3, get in line, and get real hands-on coaching tailored to your dog and whatever it is your dog is currently doing that’s driving you up a wall.

Why these folks? Tank Mosley and the Obedience Kings crew are our official training partner — they’re the reason our 6,000 square feet of off-leash park runs as smoothly as it does. These aren’t guest trainers we found on the internet. They know this park, they know these dogs, and they’ve seen it all.

What you’ll work on: Whatever you bring them. Leash pulling. Jumping on guests. A “come” command that’s more of a suggestion. Basic manners. First-time puppy stuff. Come with a question, leave with a plan.

Consider it a test drive. A lot of folks know they want to invest in real training but aren’t sure where to start or whether it’ll click. Three hours, ten bucks, and a cold one is about the lowest-pressure way we can think of to find out — and if it does click, the OBK team can walk you through their full board-and-train programs right there on the spot.

And yes, this is still a taphouse. Twelve-ish rotating Virginia craft taps, cider, our full gourmet dog menu, and a beer garden built for sitting in on an October afternoon. Bring your people. Bring your dog. Bring your dog’s terrible habits.

Dogs drink free. Owners do not — but at $10, you’re close.
